One day a girl by the
name of Alexandra, saw a poor turtle in the middle of the highway. She ran across,
remarkably dodging all the speeding cars. After that day, she became best
friends with the turtle. One day, Alexandra walked into her room and discovered
that her turtle (Eugene) was lying dead. She gingerly picked up Eugene and put
him into a beautiful yellow scarf, and then set him into the best shoebox she
had, later on burying him. She loved him very much and wished he would come
back, however everything has to go at some point.

So close to being a great first effort - did you notice that you didn't include 'remarkable' (remarkably does not count)?
This story was very interesting but isn't your cactus called Eugene ?
